Becoming A Monk Any baptized Catholic man, between 21 and 45 years of age, with good health, average intelligence, and sincere religious faith, and desire to seek God in community may have a vocation to our monastery. Candidacy: Year of discernment under the vocation director with visits to the monastery over the course of the year; with a process of prayer, reading, reflection and dialogue. Postulancy: Six to twelve months living within the monastery; knowledge and formation in God’s call and conversion. Novitiate: Canonical year: consisting of training in monastic spirituality and the Rule. Simple Vows: Three year dedication to the monastic way of life.
